CSM will build again in Plymouth

Having finished the Shops of Plymouth Creek, CSM is taking on another mixed-use development.

CSM Corp., which this year completed the Shops of Plymouth Creek residential and retail development, recently announced plans for another mixed-use retail project in Plymouth.

The Minneapolis-based developer said it will begin work early next year on a project at Hwy. 55 and Northwest Boulevard that will combine smaller shops, restaurants and service retail with a 115-room Residence Inn by Marriott extended-stay hotel. The development's architecture and landscaping will be integrated with the nearby West Health medical complex.

Scott Tubman, a CSM development associate, said he expects up to 12 tenants to occupy the 22,000 square feet of retail and restaurant space. He said CSM has had preliminary discussions with some potential tenants, including Caribou Coffee and Cosi.

The latter is a casual restaurant chain that is new to the Twin Cities and that also is planning a restaurant in the IDS Center in Minneapolis. Tubman said other tenants in the $20 million development might include some who were unable to secure spots in the Shops of Plymouth Creek, which is fully leased.

CSM spent about three years working on Plymouth Creek, which blends large and small stores with a senior housing complex that was developed by Plymouth's Housing and Redevelopment Authority. Tubman said he believes CSM's experience in working with the city gave it an edge over competing proposals for developing the five-acre site near the West Health campus.

Tubman said he expects both the hotel and retail portion of the development to be open by early 2008.

CSM's other area retail developments include the Shops at Lyndale, along Interstate Hwy. 494 in Richfield, and West Ridge Market at I-394 and Hopkins Crossroad in Minnetonka.

Griffin to lease Solomon

The Solomon Real Estate Group of Eden Prairie has hired Minneapolis-based Griffin Companies to oversee leasing for five Solomon retail properties.

The retail developments are Ramsey Town Center, a 125,000-square-foot neighborhood center that is the first retail phase of a 500,000-square-foot project in Ramsey; the Shoppes of Willmar, a 55,000-square-foot retail center in Willmar; North Branch Marketplace, a 200,000-square-foot center to be developed in two phases in North Branch; Park Place Promenade in Brooklyn Park, and Windsor Plaza, a mixed-use development in Eden Prairie.
