Since its construction in 1883, the Stone Arch Bridge has graced the Mississippi River and served as a landmark for Minneapolis. On October 17, 2005, twelve arches will be lit for the first time, illuminating the rushing water below.

Minneapolis-based CSM Corporation, along with others, helped this project come to fruition through their financial support. Charles Zelle and Jay Cowles led the 18-month planning and fundraising effort through their organization, Friends of the Minneapolis Waterfront.

The second phase, which is scheduled for the spring of 2006, will complete this project by illuminating the remaining five arches that are over land.

The Stone Arch Bridge Lighting Ceremony is scheduled for October 17 from 6-7:30. It will take place on the west end of the Stone Arch Bridge, near Mill Ruins Park and the Mill City Museum.
